Franciscan Health System Names Mark Adams, MD Its Chief Medical Officer
Mark Adams, MD, who has been a physician executive with the Franciscan Health System since 2010, is the new chief medical officer for the five-hospital organization. His appointment was effective March 3, 2012 when he succeeded Gregory Semerdjian, MD, who retired.
"I am honored to have been called to serve in this leadership role with this great organization," Dr. Adams said.
He is a board-certified general and vascular surgeon who previously held the position of vice president for medical affairs and associate chief medical officer. Before joining Franciscan, he served in medical staff leadership positions at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton.
Dr. Adams is also a clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington Department of Surgery. In addition, he serves on the boards of the Puget Sound Health Alliance and Cambia Health Solutions, which operates Regence Blue Shield, Oregon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Utah Blue Cross Blue Shield and Idaho Blue Shield. He is a past president of the Washington State Medical Association and recently served a term on the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees.
The Franciscan Health System has approximately 1,400 employed and community-based physicians and other professional providers on its medical staff. The organization includes St. Joseph Medical Center, Tacoma; St. Francis Hospital, Federal Way; St. Clare Hospital, Lakewood; St. Anthony Hospital, Gig Harbor; and St. Elizabeth Hospital, Enumclaw.
Franciscan Health System is affiliated with Colorado-based Catholic Health Initiatives, one of the largest non-profit health systems in the nation.
