Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery
Sleeve gastrectomy is an effective procedure where more than half the stomach is removed laparoscopically or using the daVinci ® Surgical System (or robotics), leaving the remaining portion in the shape of a sleeve. The procedure restricts food intake, enabling weight loss, and allows for a follow-up surgery procedure if necessary.
- Most patients who get the gastric sleeve procedure return to work in two to three weeks.
- Risk and weight loss are more moderate compared to other surgeries.
- Most patients will lose 50% of their excess body weight over six to12 months with sleeve gastrectomy alone.
- The procedure may be followed by a gastric bypass or other procedure to achieve additional weight loss, typically six to 18 months following the initial surgery.
