Robotic Arm-Assisted Surgery for Joint Replacement: Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Care
If hip or knee pain is keeping you from the activities you love, it may be time to consider total hip replacement, total knee replacement or partial knee replacement, also called partial knee resurfacing. CHI Franciscan’s St. Clare Hospital is the first in the South Sound to offer robotic arm-assisted total knee, partial knee and total hip replacement procedures. Orthopedic surgeons at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood offer expert care including robotic arm-assisted surgery — with the convenience and comforts of a community hospital.
Robotic arm-assisted surgery uses a CT scan and software to generate a 3-D virtual model of your unique anatomy to help your surgeon create a personalized preoperative plan. When preparing the bone for the implant, the surgeon guides the robotic arm within the predefined area. This helps provide more accurate placement and alignment of your implant. During surgery, the surgeon validates the plan and makes any necessary adjustments in real time, while the robotic arm allows the surgeon to execute the plan with a high level of accuracy and predictability. The combination of these three features of the system has the potential to lead to better outcomes and higher patient satisfaction.
If you suffer with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or post-traumatic arthritis, talk to your doctor about treatment and referral options. There is relief from joint pain.
Individual results vary. Not all patients will obtain the same post-operative results and activity level. Talk to your orthopedic surgeon about risks and benefits, and whether robotic arm-assisted surgery might be an option for you.
