Experience World-Class Care Near Home
At Franciscan Cancer Center, we don’t just treat the disease, we take a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to caring for the whole person.
With cancer treatment centers throughout the Puget Sound area, you’ll have access to a nationally recognized and comprehensive lung cancer program that includes screening and prevention, and lung cancer experts who specialize in diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.
Lung cancer screening
We offer a low-dose CT screening for lung cancer for people at higher risk of lung cancer.
Lung nodule clinic
More people are being diagnosed with pulmonary (lung) nodules, which are round or oval growths in the lungs. Also known as spots or lesions, lung nodules may be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
To ensure that those at risk for developing lung nodules receive early diagnosis and treatment, our team has developed an innovative approach: our Lung Nodule Clinics.
Latest treatment protocols for outstanding outcomes
Our program is accredited by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a program of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS). As an accredited institution, we report on and compare ourselves to the national standards in order to continuously improve survival and quality of life for cancer patients. Our quality metrics for cancer of the lung exceed national benchmarks determined by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) and the National Quality Forum (NQF).
Lung Cancer – Site of Recurrence
|Following surgical removal of neuroendocrine tumor|
|Low-grade tumor||Intermediate-grade tumor|
We also play a role in helping to define what those standards should be. Based on the data on cancer recurrence we submitted as a part of a multi-institutional study, we are helping to define standards for follow-up after surgery, and the need for special attention to the liver.

Ask your doctor about how to access clinical trials.
Thoracic oncology surgeons at St. Joseph Medical Center earned the elite three-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for stage 1 lung cancer lobectomy. It is the society’s highest rating and only awarded to the top five percent of thoracic surgery programs in the US. Baiya Krishnadasan, MD performs a large volume of these operations using minimally invasive techniques. The three-star designation reflects results significantly better than the national average for 30-day mortality and length of hospital stay after lobectomy for lung cancer for the period January 2012 through December 2016.
