Make a Crucial Catch
When it comes to cancer, offense is the best defense.

Help Us Intercept Cancer
We’re teaming up with the Seahawks, Virginia Mason and the American Cancer Society to promote cancer prevention.
A healthy lifestyle, plus regular screenings for early detection, can help reduce cancer risk. CHI Franciscan offers screenings for breast, colorectal, gynecologic, lung, prostate and skin cancers, and related conditions. Don’t wait. Get the life-saving cancer screenings you need.
CHI Franciscan's Dr. Jason Tcheng from Harrison Medical Center joined Virginia Mason's Dr. Timothy Zisman and former Seahawks legend Nesby Glasgow to discuss the importance of Crucial Catch and early detection during New Day Northwest on KING 5 News. Dr. Jason Tcheng also teamed up with Virginia Mason's Dr. Vlad Simianu on Q13 Fox to discuss early cancer screening and what to do if you're unsure of which screening(s) to get:
Breast cancer screening
Annual screening mammograms are recommended for women ages 40 and older. Your provider may recommend a different screening schedule if you’re at higher risk for breast cancer. Talk with your provider about the screening schedule that’s right for you.
Find breast health centers and clinics
Colorectal cancer screening
The risk of colorectal cancer increases with age and family medical history of the disease. That’s why we recommend screening for everyone ages 50 and over, based on guidelines from the US Preventive Services Task Force.
Talk to your primary care provider about getting screened
Find a gastroenterologist
Gynecologic cancer screening
Of gynecological cancers, only cervical cancer has a screening test, known as the Pap test, which improves your chances for prevention or successful treatment by detecting cell changes early. Based on guidelines from the US Preventive Services Task Force, we recommend Pap tests for all women between ages 21 and 65.
Find a gynecologist
Lung cancer screening
A low-dose CT screening for lung cancer may be recommended for men and women, ages 55 to 75, who are current or former smokers with a smoking history of 30 pack-years. A referral from a provider is needed for a low-dose lung CT screening. Ask your primary care or family provider for more information and a referral.
Prostate cancer screening
Prostate cancer screenings are recommended for men ages 55 years and older, and those at high risk, particularly African-American men. Talk to your provider about the risks and benefits.
Find a urologist
Skin cancer screening
We offer skin cancer screenings in our hospitals and clinics, and free screenings for underserved people in the communities we serve. Ask your provider for more information about skin cancer screenings.
Other screenings
Talk with your primary care provider about any other cancer-related screenings you may need.
