Cancer Screening: Carl Carver

Carl Carver 13Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010 Treatment team: Franciscan Cancer Center, Tacoma Valley Radiation Oncology, Virginia Mason

“My dad died of prostate cancer and my uncle had it too, so I’ve been vigilant about getting my PSA levels checked every year. In 2010 they were higher than normal so I had a needle biopsy, which detected cancer. I had radiation and hormone therapy to treat the cancer. I believe that my heightened awareness and regular screenings saved me from needing surgery. Today I’m cancer-free and will have my PSA levels checked every three months for the next five years.”
