St. Joseph Medical Center, a part of CHI Franciscan, serves Tacoma and surrounding areas with the goal of creating healthier communities. In an effort to expand that mission and vision, we received institutional approval from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). ACGME is a private, non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits graduate medical education (GME) programs. With this approval, St. Joseph Medical Center plans to launch a general surgery residency program the summer of 2019.

We engage the residents in a planned curriculum delivered via lectures and conferences, simulation, online course materials, at bedside and in the operating room during structured rotations.
