CHI Franciscan Health and CityMD to Open Urgent Care at Virginia Mason Bainbridge Island Medical Center
New location offers care led by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and increases urgent care services on the island
Bainbridge Island, Washington - CHI Franciscan Health and CityMD plan to open an urgent care center in early 2019 in the medical facility that also houses Virginia Mason Bainbridge Island Medical Center. The new location will join seven other CityMD sites currently serving communities across King and Pierce counties.
“Our partnership with CityMD allows us to expand access to premier urgent care services throughout the region,” said Ketul J. Patel, chief executive officer of CHI Franciscan Health. “CHI Franciscan is committed to providing convenient, high-quality care where our neighbors and families need it most throughout the entire Puget Sound. Together with Virginia Mason, we are able to increase urgent care services to our communities on the island.”
The site, which will open to patients in early 2019, will see patients seven days a week, including 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CityMD’s urgent care model employs primarily board-certified emergency medicine doctors, so patients receive a level of care they would not typically experience at another urgent care provider. Together with key clinical support staff, like X-ray technicians and medical assistants, they offer easily-accessible medical care for a variety of illnesses and injuries, including sprains, minor fractures, allergies, urinary tract infections, asthma, and upper respiratory infections. Additionally, since it is co-located with other medical services on the island, CityMD’s Aftercare program will provide vital follow-up services to patients and will help to connect them with a full continuum of primary and specialty care services.
Virginia Mason opened the new Bainbridge Island Medical Center site in June, expanding same-day access to family medicine and internal medicine, while also offering other specialty services. It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We are delighted that CityMD is coming to Bainbridge Island,” said Gary S. Kaplan, MD, chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason. “Staffed primarily with board-certified emergency medicine doctors, all area residents — including our existing patients — will have higher acuity access without having to leave the island. Such access can also prevent unnecessary visits to the emergency department.”
“Our mission at CityMD is to provide communities with an exceptional experience through high-quality medical care and convenient access,” said Joseph Passanante, MD, senior vice president of CityMD Medical Operations, Northwest Region. “Through our partnership with CHI Franciscan, we are able to further extend our standard of care and serve more Washingtonians with critical health care services as an alternative to the doctor’s office or the emergency room. We’re excited to now serve the Bainbridge Island community.
Visiting an urgent care center for treatment of minor illnesses and injuries can help patients avoid potentially lengthy wait times at emergency departments, easing the burden of non-emergent care on those departments and reducing health care costs. According to CityMD’s "Know Where to Go" Guide, many Americans are still not choosing the correct immediate care option, opting to visit the Emergency Services department for medical care that could be provided more cost-effectively and faster by expert emergency professionals in urgent care centers. CHI Franciscan and CityMD are committed to ensuring communities have the information they need to make the right choice between the Emergency Services department and an urgent care – saving valuable patient time and reducing costs.
The new CityMD urgent care center will be co-located with Virginia Mason at:
1344 Wintergreen Lane Northeast
Bainbridge Island, WA 98110
