Our Cancer Services
No matter where you are in your cancer journey, CHI Franciscan Cancer Care is here to fight alongside you. As one of the largest, most comprehensive providers of expert cancer care in the Puget Sound, you’ll find a full range of cancer services—from prevention and screening to treatment and survivorship. And with our expansive navigator program, including specialty nurse navigators and community (lay) navigators, you’ll always have someone to help you find your way, answer your questions and listen to your concerns.
Cancer prevention and screening
We’re dedicated to helping people in our local communities get—and stay—healthy to enjoy a better quality of life. We offer prevention programs that educate about cancer, its risk factors and ways to prevent it. Our screening services can detect many types of cancer either before they develop, or in their early stages, when they’re most treatable. Learn more about our cancer prevention and screening programs.
Clinical Cancer Genetics Program
Our genetic counselor provides genetic counseling to help you understand whether testing is recommended, and if you may have an increased risk for cancer, based on personal and family medical history. Learn more about our Clinical Cancer Genetics Program.
The American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer has accredited our cancer program — making us one of the top health systems in the country who achieve this recognition. That means that our surgeons, oncologists, nurses and other cancer providers meet the highest standards—which translates to better results for you. Learn more about our accreditations and awards.
Our dedicated specialty surgeon experts have years of experience in treating cancer with the most advanced surgical procedures with excellent outcomes. We treat every kind of cancer including bladder, blood, breast, colon, gallbladder, liver, ovarian, pancreas, prostate, rectal, stomach, uterine, vulvar, and others.
Chemotherapy and radiation therapy
You’ll find chemotherapy infusion clinics throughout the Puget Sound, so you can receive treatment close to home.
Radiation therapy uses high-energy rays to kill cancerous cells. Our radiation oncologists utilize leading edge technology to provide targeted treatments depending upon each patient’s personalized treatment plan:
- Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI)
- Gamma Knife Radiosurgery
- Image-guided radiation therapy
- Intensity-modulated radiation therapy or IMRT
- Linear Accelerator
- Stereotactic body radiation therapy or SBRT
Sometimes, chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be given at the same time.
Other outpatient services include:
Hospice and palliative care
For those living with a serious illness, we offer compassionate hospice and palliative care. Palliative care focuses on managing pain and symptoms, and it can be provided alongside curative treatments at any stage of illness. When medical treatment no longer helps in treating your cancer, you may consider hospice care. Our hospice services differ from palliative care in that we focus on quality of life at the end-of-life for those with a life-limiting illness.
Our hospice and palliative care:
- Provide support and therapy that relieves your symptoms (but does not treat your cancer) to improve your quality of life
- Take place in our facilities (inpatient care) or the comfort of your own home
CHI Franciscan Hospice House, the only dedicated inpatient hospice program in the South Sound, provides 24-hour care in a comfortable, home-like setting. Hospice House helps patients who need a higher level of medical care than they can receive at home.
