A.W.A.K.E. Support Group

A great resource for CPAP users!

The "Alert Wakefulness and Keeping Energetic" (A.W.A.K.E.) support group is a meeting place for Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (NCPAP or CPAP) wearers and their families. NCPAP is a piece of equipment consisting of a mask and blower unit, which prevent snoring and obstructive sleep apnea by blowing air into the sleeper's nose. The A.W.A.K.E.group discusses various topics related to obstructive sleep apnea and may hear presentations from sales representatives on new products. Light snacks are provided. Schedule: These meetings are held on the second Wednesdays of each quarter (February, May, August, November) at 7 p.m.

Location: St. Clare Resource Room on the St. Clare Hospital campus.

Please note: The Resource Room is not inside St. Clare Hospital. It is just north of the hospital (across from the Emergency Services department), at 4908 112th Street, Lakewood. The room is on the main level.

Cancer: Fitting Food Into Your Fight Against Cancer

Designed for cancer patients in active treatment and their caregiver or support person. Topics include: anti-inflammatory foods to aid recovery and healing, coping with common treatment related side effects, and reputable nutrition resources. Cancer: Laryngectomy Support Group

A support group led by laryngectomy survivors. The group is open to survivors, spouses and/or caregivers. Provides information and support on treatment, recovery and the challenges of living with laryngectomy.

Cancer: Living with Cancer Support Group

Provides cancer survivors, family and/or caregivers information and support through diagnosis, treatment, recovery and the challenges of the first year of living and surviving cancer after completion of treatment. Caregivers are welcome to attend.

Cancer: Look Good, Feel Better

Open to female cancer survivors. This 2 and 1/2 hour class teaches women how to apply make-up, tie head scarves and enhance their appearance during cancer treatment. Lots of fun for everyone!

Schedule: Held once each February, April, June, August, October and December on the first Friday from 10-11:30 a.m.

Caregivers Support Group - St. Elizabeth Hospital

Caregiving is an act of kindness, love and loyalty. It is also an act that can drain one’s batteries, involving numerous practical decisions and emotional hurdles. If you are the primary caregiver for an aging, declining or ill individual, join us. Find out about valuable resources, education and tools for coping with the challenges of caregiving while receiving understanding support from other caregivers.

Diabetes Support Groups

The Franciscan Diabetes Support Group is designed for people with diabetes and their family members. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences and feelings, and in return learn and find encouragement and support from others coping with similar issues. Half of the meeting is dedicated to presentation on specific topics identified by the group, like meal planning, blood sugar self-testing and exercise. The other half is dedicated to open discussion and sharing.

Diabetes Support Group - St. Elizabeth Hospital

CHI Franciscan Health also offers Tobacco Cessation Classes that can be conveniently scheduled at work. Tobacco cessation is a cost-effective way to save your company money, and make your workforce more productive.

Heart Failure Support Group

The symptoms of heart failure - like fatigue, swelling and shortness of breath - can have a major impact on your day-to-day life. At CHI Franciscan Health we know it can be challenging going toe-to-toe with this disease. With a community at your side, tackling better health with heart failure is achievable. You don’t have to do this alone. We’re here to help with expert advice and a safe environment to connect with others managing this condition. Heart failure expert, Susan Eardley, RN and Certified Heart Failure Nurse, will lead the group to provide you with information and support to care for mind, body and soul, to achieve your greatest wellness.

Surgical Weight Loss Support Groups

Choosing to have bariatric surgery may be among the most important health decisions you'll make in your lifetime. Getting to know other people who share experiences similar to yours can contribute a great deal to your long-term success. Whether you're contemplating surgical weight loss or have already had surgery, we have a support group to meet your needs. We welcome patients of any surgeon or hospital. Participants share experiences and answer each others' questions in a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere. Health professionals, including behaviorists, dietitians, physicians and physical therapists, attend these meetings on a rotating basis to offer guidance and up-to-date information.
