Sky Bridge Work Requires Temporary Access Changes At St. Joseph Outpatient Center
As part of construction of the Franciscan Medical Building at St. Joseph in Tacoma, work on the sky bridge connecting the new building to the St. Joseph Outpatient Center begins June 18 and continues through Aug. 10.
Erecting the sky bridge will require temporary closure of the outpatient center driveway and the building’s west stairwell on South J Street, as well as some access changes between 16th and 17th streets.
These changes will not affect services or business hours at either St. Joseph Medical Center or the St. Joseph Outpatient Center.
A new temporary drop-off area and valet station near the outpatient center driveway will serve patients and visitors from 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Franciscan staff will be on hand to assist individuals to and from this temporary valet and drop-off area. Wheel chairs will also be available as needed.
Meanwhile, the regular complementary valet service at the main entrance to the hospital will continue to serve patients and visitors from 5 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, individuals with appointments in the outpatient center are encouraged to use the temporary valet station for greater convenience.
The sky bridge linking the Franciscan Medical Building and St. Joseph Outpatient Center will provide patients, visitors and employees a safe, protected passageway across heavily traveled South J Street. The 120,000-square-foot medical building, scheduled to open next year, will be home to physician offices and other medical services within a patient-centered environment. The new facility also will be connected to a new parking garage with 770 vehicle stalls.
