Gregory Unruh Named President Of The Franciscan Foundation
Gregory Unruh is the new president of the Franciscan Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the non-profit, faith-based Franciscan Health System. His appointment was effective Aug. 6.
The Gig Harbor resident and local businessman has more than 30 years of accomplished leadership and business experience in the banking industry. During his career, he has served in senior positions with Bank of America, Wells Fargo and, most recently, Timberland Bank.
He also has been involved as a volunteer with the Franciscan Foundation for several years. He served as a trustee on the Foundation’s Board of Directors, was a member of the St. Anthony Hospital Capital Campaign Steering Committee, and is a past chair of the annual St. Joseph Medical Center Ball.
“Greg stood out among all of the candidates because the Franciscan mission and our values are already close to this heart," said Franciscan Chief Executive Officer Joseph Wilczek. “His experience as a successful business leader and community fundraiser, coupled with his enthusiasm, dedication and energy, will be great additions to Franciscan."
The Franciscan Foundation was established in 1986 to receive and administer charitable gifts made on behalf of the health system.
“I am very honored to been selected to serve as president of the Foundation," Unruh said. “I look forward to working with the Foundation’s staff and our donors to support the Franciscan mission to create healthier communities."
Unruh also serves on the Greater Lakes Mental Health Foundation Board of Directors in Lakewood and the Bellarmine Preparatory School Board of Directors in Tacoma. At Bellarmine, he chairs the Development Committee and directs a cadre of volunteers who solicit many of the school’s largest gifts. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.
Dianna Kielian, senior vice president of mission for the Franciscan Health System, served as interim president of the Franciscan Foundation since August 2011 while the organization conducted a national search to fill the position of president. Under her guidance, the Foundation reached new heights in fundraising with special events such as the St. Joseph Medical Center Ball and St. Francis Hospital Gala.
