St. Francis Auxiliary Will Host Rose Garden Social Aug. 15 To Attract New Members
The St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary in Federal Way, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year along with the Franciscan Health System hospital it supports, is inviting more people to join the volunteer women’s group and get involved in the important work it is doing.
"Being part of the auxiliary opens doors to new friendships and paves the way for opportunities to give back to our community," said Charlene Harris, president of the auxiliary.
The auxiliary presently has about 70 members, several of whom have been part of the group since it was formed when St. Francis Hospital opened in May 1987. About 40 women on the membership roster are actively involved in the group’s numerous activities. Membership costs only $25 a year.
As part of its effort to increase membership in this milestone year, the auxiliary will host a social in the rose garden outside the St. Francis Hospital cafeteria from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15. At that event, women can meet auxiliary members and talk with them about the benefits of being part of the group. Admission to the social is free. To RSVP, call Kathy Schmidt, the hospital’s manager of volunteer services and community integration programs, at (253) 944-4129 or email her at kathyschmidt@FHShealth.org.
"The projects we support on behalf of the hospital touch many lives in countless ways," said Harris, a member of the auxiliary since 2005. "For those of us in the auxiliary, the group’s activities are fun, inspiring, and spiritually rewarding."
St. Francis Hospital is a part of the non-profit, faith-based Franciscan Health System. Through the years, members of the independent auxiliary have helped fulfill the Franciscan mission to create healthier communities through fundraisers that support the hospital’s car-seat safety inspection program, music-therapy services for hospitalized patients, and many other quality-of-life programs. The auxiliary also raised funds to purchase the customized golf cart that transports patients and visitors between the medical buildings and hospital facilities on the St. Francis campus along 9th Avenue South.
"We are very proud to be associated with a community hospital like St. Francis and the enduring mission of the Franciscan organization," Harris said. "We are hopeful that other women in Federal Way, Fife, Des Moines and communities throughout South King County will see membership in our auxiliary as an exciting new chapter in their lives."
Membership in the St. Francis Auxiliary is open to all women, ages 18 and up.
St. Francis Hospital, licensed for 134 patient beds, is a cornerstone for quality of life in the Federal Way area through its inpatient and outpatient medical services and its breadth of community outreach programs that benefit individuals of all ages in myriad ethnic groups.
