St. Clare Hospital Supports Local SchoolDonation will support new playground equipment
Students at Tyee Park Elementary are getting closer to enjoying new playground equipment thanks to a donation from St. Clare Hospital. More than $5,300 was raised to help replace older playground equipment.
Hospital physicians, leaders and staff put together a lunch of Filipino cuisine that raised nearly $2,000 in two hours as well as a BBQ cook-off competition that was part of St. Clare’s Annual Summer Games that raised the remaining funds.
St. Clare Hospital and Tyee Park Elementary have a long-standing partnership. In 2012, St. Clare donated $1,000 toward the new playground equipment.
“In addition to the monetary donations, St. Clare Hospital staff mentor students, work with groups on arts and crafts projects and even teach students how to knit,” said Gail Gillis, principal of Tyee Park Elementary. “We are very happy to have St. Clare staff share their expertise and time with our school. It is such a benefit to our students.”
“One of the top priorities of St. Clare Hospital and the Franciscan Health System is to build healthier communities,” says Kathy Bressler, president of St. Clare Hospital. “I can think of no better way to build a stronger Lakewood community than by working with Tyee Park to give their students the best educational experience possible. We know that getting children started on a healthy lifestyle while they are in school will give them a solid foundation for living a healthy life as an adult.”
Kathy Bressler and staff from St. Clare Hospital presented principal Gail Gillis with a check at a school assembly in November.
