Shop For A Doc: St. Francis Hospital Makes It Easy To Choose An Obstetrician
St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way is making it easier than ever for women to choose an obstetrician through its series of shop-for-a-doctor events that enable moms-to-be to personally meet physicians that specialize in providing care during normal and high-risk pregnancies.
The next "Evening with a Physician," which will be attended by four obstetricians affiliated with the Franciscan Medical Group, will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the Franciscan hospital, 34515 Ninth Ave. S.
Admission is free but registration is recommended. Call 1-888-825-3227 toll-free or register online at www.FHShealth.org/classes.
"Research shows that patients who connect with their doctor are happier with their care," said Robert Snyder, MD, who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology at Franciscan Women’s Health in Federal Way. "As doctors, we help our patients have the best experience possible."
During the "Evening with a Physician," women and their partners can tour the St. Francis Hospital Birth Center and "shop for a doctor" by participating in personal conversations with obstetricians (OBs). This will be the third event of its kind at St. Francis in recent months.
Seeing the Birth Center and meeting members of the nursing staff is important because moms-to-be want to feel comfortable in the place where they will give birth. The ability to have one-on-one chats with OBs is the highlight of the evening for many participants.
"It was great chance for someone like me, who is new to the area, to meet an OB who matches my preferences," said one woman who attended the July event at St. Francis Hospital.
"We want to help parents-to-be and couples who are starting to plan a family to find the doctor who will be a good partner," Dr. Snyder said. "While people can find physicians’ professional profiles online and see their pictures, it isn’t the same or as meaningful as meeting the doctors in person.
"Couples who have attended our previous events have had good things to say," he added. "They embraced the chance to meet the doctors before they call for an office visit, and women also like seeing the rooms in our hospital."
In addition to meeting obstetricians, women can learn about the breast-feeding classes, family-focused educational offerings, and other Franciscan services designed to support parents and their children.
A total of 1,113 babies were born at St. Francis Hospital during the 12-month period ending June 30.
