May is National Stroke Awareness Month!
May is National Stroke Awareness Month! Did you know that stroke is the #4 cause of death and leading cause of adult disability in the U.S.? According to the National Stroke Association, 60% of strokes are caused by high blood pressure and 80% of strokes are preventable. By knowing your risk factors, you can help decrease your risk of this debilitating and sometimes deadly health occurrence. Risk factors include: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, atrial fibrillation, diabetes, tobacco use, obesity and sedentary lifestyle. Unavoidable risk factors are: being 55 or over, female, African American, family history of stroke, previous stroke.
