Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care Expands Hospice Service To All Of King County
Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care expanded its services area to include all of King County October 1. This decision came after careful analysis of the existing hospice service levels in that area, as well as an examination of our ability to deliver the same high quality service that we are able to provide in our existing area. Several key factors played a part in this decision.
King County as a whole is underserved by hospice programs - fewer people are receiving hospice care in this area in comparison to the areas in which Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care currently provides care.
Swedish recently closed its Hospice program further reducing the amount of hospice care available to the community.
Our mission calls us to provide end of life care to all who want and need our services, and this is a tremendous opportunity to fulfill that Mission. Many large referral sources have been reluctant to work with us because we only serve the southern portion of King County.
The implementation of an electronic health record last year allows our staff to operate more proficiently by documenting at the point of care. We have developed a comprehensive work plan to guide the expansion.
Our area of focus will be in the Seattle Metropolitan area and we believe that most of our referrals will be concentrated in the western area of King County. However, we will respond to referrals in any part of the County except Vashon Island. Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care will serve all of King County out of its existing Federal Way office. Pharmacy, home medical equipment, and clinical services have been expanded or restructured to accommodate new hospice patients in Seattle. Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care has many long standing relationships in Seattle hospitals and clinics and those groups of health care providers have expressed great support for our expansion to the Seattle community. Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care is often considered to be the hospice of choice due to the comprehensive nature of our services and our ability to quickly respond to referrals.
