Franciscan Cancer Programs Accredited By American College Of Surgeons

Franciscan Health System has earned re-accreditation of its cancer programs from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer following a review of inpatient and outpatient services at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way and St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood.

"Accreditation by the Commission on Cancer confirms that we follow the highest standards for providing care and tracking clinical outcomes," said Joy Martin, RN, regional director of Franciscan oncology services. "We are very proud to be recognized for excellence by this organization, which is dedicated to improving the survival rate and quality of life for cancer patients."

Commission on Cancer surveyors commended the integrated approach to care by Franciscan’s multi-disciplinary team of nurse navigators, case managers and social workers who work together to ensure that patients receive the right care at the right time. Franciscan also received surveyors’ praise for outcomes analysis, prevention and detection, continuing education for the Cancer Registry staff, and quality improvement.
