Best Place to Work (People)

Through this strategy, we endeavor to achieve the highest levels of employee satisfaction and safety.

  • Nearly 400 Franciscan employees and their families use our new telemedicine program, which provides after-hours phone and webcam access to a physician or a nurse for consults about minor illnesses and injuries. The program, called Franciscan Anytime, reduces unnecessary trips to hospital emergency rooms and receives high user-satisfaction scores

  • The Franciscan Foundation awards $64,000 in scholarships to 33 Franciscan employees who are pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees, or academic certifications, in health care-related topics

  • The Cornerstone Club, supported by Franciscan employee contributions, donates $10,000 to the Cancer Resource Center at St. Joseph. The funds are used to provide cancer patients on limited incomes with gasoline vouchers to ensure they can travel to and from scheduled medical appointments

  • Franciscan’s nurse-residency programs in critical care, emergency medicine and other specialties attract 242 participants

  • More than 1,600 volunteers support the Franciscan mission through 170,130 hours of volunteer service at our hospitals and other facilities

  • Approximately 700 people attend the 36th annual St. Joseph Ball, a fundraising gala that generates a record $405,000 to support expansion of cardiothoracic services at St. Joseph Medical Center

  • Led by Franciscan Nutrition Services, cafeterias at Franciscan hospitals and other facilities introduce a healthy choice option, called Real Food, as part of the daily menu. The program features nutrient-rich food items provided by local farmers. Meals are prepared in ways that enhance flavor without increasing calories, and portions are sized right for a healthy diet
